London Climate Action Week | Towards new strategic partnerships for industry decarbonisation and economic resilience: Opportunities for India, UK and the EU

As global trade patterns shift and economic security concerns intensify, governments face a pressing challenge: how to strengthen economic resilience while accelerating the clean industrial transition.

The recently concluded trade agreements between India and the UK, and between India and the EU, offer a unique opportunity to do both. Beyond market access, these agreements open new pathways for strategic cooperation in clean technology, green finance and industrial decarbonisation.

Taking place during London Climate Action Week 2026, this roundtable will explore how India, the EU and the UK can turn trade agreements into platforms for meaningful climate and industrial collaboration – advancing competitiveness, strengthening supply chains and delivering on shared commitments under the Paris Agreement.

Why this matters

India is projected to drive a significant share of global industrial growth over the coming decades. Sectors such as steel – one of the most carbon‑intensive industries globally – will be central to this expansion. Decarbonising these hard‑to‑abate sectors is essential to meeting climate goals, yet it requires new forms of partnership to address structural barriers, mobilise finance and deploy clean technologies at scale.

This discussion will consider steel decarbonisation as a test case for a broader model of strategic cooperation – one that aligns trade, industrial strategy and climate ambition.

Key questions to be discussed:

  • How can India–EU–UK partnerships deliver tangible outcomes in green investment, technology transfer and co‑development?
  • What institutional and financial mechanisms can accelerate industrial decarbonisation in hard‑to‑abate sectors?
  • How can strategic trade relationships strengthen both climate ambition and economic resilience?
  • What lessons can this cooperation offer for wider global climate and industrial partnerships?

This event is organised by TULIP Consulting, in partnership with ODI Global, as part of London Climate Action Week 2026. Full speaker line-up to be announced soon.
