Webinar: Global trade, industrial policies, and climate negotiations: What’s in it for Africa?

On 26 June 2025, Colette van der Ven, Director of TULIP Consulting, participated in a timely dialogue co-hosted by the African Climate Foundation (ACF) and the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa at the London School of Economics (LSE).

The discussion explored the evolving intersections of global trade, industrial policy, and climate negotiations, and their implications for development pathways—particularly in Africa. As shifting trade dynamics and climate imperatives reshape the global economy, the conversation highlighted both the challenges and opportunities facing African countries as they seek to industrialise, integrate into global value chains, and transition to low-carbon economies while ensuring inclusive growth.

The dialogue also marked the launch of the inaugural Briefs on Trade and Climate Sustainability 2025, developed in collaboration with the African Trade Policy Programme at LSE. Bringing together diverse stakeholders, the session shared key insights from the Briefs and contributed to a broader exchange on policy approaches to support Africa’s sustainable development ambitions.
