World Resource Forum 2025: Can Supply Security and Sustainability Coexist?
At the World Resources Forum 2025, TULIP Consulting ‘s Executive Director Colette van der Ven was a speaker at the plenary session on “Trading in Transition: Can Supply Security and Sustainability Coexist?”
This panel will explored how global trade systems for minerals and metals can reconcile supply security with sustainability. It examined the role of governance, policy reform, transparency and industry collaboration in shaping future global trade frameworks that support a secure supply while attaining high environmental and social standards.
Colette focused her remarks on the inherent tension between sustainability objectives and securing supply chain access to critical minerals in a world marked by geopolitical rivalry and tensions between the interests of developing countries to process raw materials domestically and those of developed countries that have established their own domestic processing targets.
She highlighted the opportunity for resource-rich countries to negotiate deals aligned with their development and sustainability objectives, and the importance of developing comprehensive approaches to supply chain security that link financing to trade and investment commitments.
